Fairchild Semiconductor Addresses Emerging Trends in Video Design

Fairchild Semiconductor offers designers video filter solutions that support the move to higher video definition, mobile video and new output requirements while optimizing system power consumption

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS), a leading global supplier of high performance power and mobile products, offers designers video filter solutions that support the move to higher video definition, mobile video and new output requirements, while optimizing system power consumption.

Consumer demand for higher definition is gaining momentum in set-top box and DVD/Blu-ray platforms, with 1080i high definition (HD) capability expected to be included in up to 50 percent of set-top boxes in 2011, according to major set top-box manufacturers. This demand is driving the need for video filters to support various combinations of 1080i HD and standard definition (SD), and Fairchild has developed three new products - FMS6143A, FMS6363A, and FMS6364A - to meet this need.

The FMS6364A four-channel video filter supports three 1080i HD channels and one SD channel, making it ideal for cost-effective video platforms that are eliminating the two SD channels traditionally reserved for S-video. The FMS6364A joins the existing FMS6144A four-channel SD video filter in support of this emerging "sans-S-video" requirement.

For higher-end systems requiring a full complement of six-channel video, Fairchild's FMS6363A, a three- channel 1080i HD video filter, and Fairchild's FMS6143A, a three-channel SD video filter IC, can be used in various combinations. This provides mixed 1080i HD with SD or all SD, bringing more flexibility to the overall design and offers customers a competitive advantage in the market place.

To embrace energy-conservation concerns, video platform makers are moving to three volt power supplies. Fairchild supports this three volt operation with the FMS6143A, FMS6363A, and FMS6364A products, which complement Fairchild's other 3 volt-capable video filters.

The FMS6364A is housed in a 14-pin TSSOP package and the FMS6363A and FMS6143A each use an 8-pin SOIC package.

These new video filters continue Fairchild's strategy of building filter ICs for specific video market trends, and join the FMS6303 that supports the trend to even higher 1080p HD video and the tiny FMS6151 to enable video for mobile devices.
