Fierce Comics to Launch New Title at New York Comic Con

Fierce Comics to Release Midwalker #1 at the Largest Popular Culture Convention on the East Coast

Fierce Comics today announced that it will launch the company's third title, Midwalker, at the 2011 New York Comic Con, held October 13-16, at the Javits Center in Midtown Manhattan. The book follows the experiences of Joshua Fischer after a serious head injury that almost cost him his life. Years after the injury, Fischer discovers he has the remarkable ability to cross partway into the ethereal realm whereby he is enveloped in, and can control, amazing energies. But the euphoric feeling associated with crossing over turns out to be far more addictive than he ever anticipated. "I wanted to explore what it would be like for a person if he or she were free to experience a taste of heaven while being tethered to Earth," said writer Ben Filipiak. "How addictive would that ability be? How would it affect your relationships, or your perspective on life?" Soon after discovering his abilities, Joshua finds himself hunted by Growtesque, a large and powerful demon warrior sent to destroy him.

The story is being brought to life by the talented Mike Shoyket (Titans, Superman 80-page Giant, G.I. Joe: America's Elite) who is both penciling and inking the book. "Besides the fun superhero stuff, it's a figuration of how people, and especially young people, deal with horrible tragedy. I think it's a very special story," said Shoyket.

Fierce Fan favorite Scott Reed returns to color the book. Scott's comics career began as an inker for Malibu Comics (Star Trek:DS9, Mortal Kombat, Ultraverse) and Dark Horse Comics (Godzilla, G.I.Joe). He later wrote, illustrated and self-published his creator-owned comics under his self-publishing label Web's Best Comics (The Last Odyssey, High Strangeness). Reed was the penciler, inker and colorist of Redneck Red from Fierce Comics. More recently, he has written for Image Comics (The Overman) and Marvel Comics (Son Of Hulk: Realm Of Kings and Dark Son: The Enigma Force).

"I'm fortunate to have such an outstanding creative team to work with on this project. We're receiving very favorable responses to both the story and the art in this book. It's definitely looking like we have another winner on our hands," said Filipiak. A limited number of preview edition copies of the first in the six-issue series will be available to purchase at the New York Comic Con.
