ID Theft Quiz Announces a New Tool for Consumers to Test Their Identity Theft Knowledge and Risk Level

ID Theft Quiz provides an interactive site with tips for securing personal information as a free public service, in its ongoing effort to help consumers protect their identities.

ID Theft Quiz now provides an anonymous, three-minute quiz to analyze users' behaviors and assess their risk of becoming identity theft victims. Though there is no way to completely prevent identity theft, taking simple precautions can vastly reduce consumers' risk of becoming identity theft victims, and ID Theft Quiz shows them how.

ID Theft Quiz created this new tool because knowledge is power. Consumers are empowered when they learn how everyday behaviors like using the ATM or picking up the mail can influence the likelihood that they'll be among the millions of peoples who become ID theft victims every year.

Quiz users respond to multiple choice questions like the following examples:
I shred or burn all unused documents which contain my personal information such as bank statements, utility bills, canceled checks, and credit card offers I receive in the mail.
I review my credit report from each of the three main credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion) and look for items which might indicate identity theft.

Responses are scored at the completion of the test and a corresponding risk level is assigned, indicating users are very much at risk of identity theft, moderately at risk of identity theft, or that they have already taken prudent steps to protect themselves from identity theft. Explanations of how each action impacts the security of their personal information is provided with tips for further reducing the chance they'll become identity theft victims.

In 2009, more than 11 million Americans were victims of identity fraud and suffered more than $1.8 billion in losses. More consumers contacted the Federal Trade Commission's Consumer Sentinel Network to report identity theft than for any other of 30 complaint categories.

ID Theft Quiz owns and operates quiz.idtheftquiz.org, a popular Web site which allows consumers to compare identity theft protection services and rates. ID Theft Quiz also provides consumers with exclusive discounts for LifeLock services.
