International Association of Women Recognizes Jessica E. McClain, CPA, CISA, PMP, CGFM, as a 2018-2019 Influencer

The International Association of Women (IAW) recognizes Jessica E. McClain as a 2018-2019 Influencer. She is acknowledged as a leader in federal government financial management. Jessica E. McClain has more than ten years of experience in the federal financial management arena. In 2015, she joined Williams, Adley & Company-DC, LLP, a public accounting firm headquartered in Washington, DC.

As a Senior Manager, Ms. McClain, who is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Project Management Professional (PMP) and Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM), oversees the firm’s Department of Defense portfolio, including capture and business development. “I am responsible for engagement profitability and client relationship management,” she said. “I am also the hiring manager for the firm's Assurance & Advisory Department.”

In her leadership role, Ms. McClain uses the industry expertise, insight and knowledge she has amassed during her career. “I use my project management skills to manage multiple audit engagements and my strong communication skills to deliver difficult issues to my clients, provide briefings and presentations, and to articulate a clear vision for my team,” she said. Ms. McClain added that in her management position, she often must think and act as a business owner. “My business acumen skills assist me in managing clients, managing business, managing relationships and managing people,” she noted. “Being in a leadership position in my profession will present me with many stressful situations that will require my strong emotional intelligence skills.”

A leader who is also a team player, Ms. McClain is quick to acknowledge the positive impact her team has had on her ability to achieve success. “I have learned throughout my career that my success is measured by the growth and achievement of my team and that is what makes my career so rewarding,” she said.

As she looks to the future, Ms. McClain’s hopes to make Partner at Williams, Adley & Company, and to inspire others in their professional pursuits. “My future goal is to make Partner at my firm, but more importantly, to encourage women and people of color to not only pursue a career in accounting but empower them to move up to the leadership ranks of the profession,” she said.

Ms. McClain is a proud member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Women’s Initiatives Executive Committee, whose mission is to promote and support the success of women for the broader purpose of sustaining the profession by creating an inclusive environment, increasing talent engagement and leadership opportunities for women.

A proud supporter of her alma mater Towson University, Ms. McClain is currently a mentor in the university’s College and Business and Economics (CBE) MentHER Program. Additionally, she has also participated in a Women in Leadership Panel for the CBE.
