Preity Üpala Represents Hollywood in China, at the FPA Board Meeting

Actress and Producer Ms. Preity Üpala travels to China to attend Asian Film Industry board meeting to discuss the future of movies in the region.

​​​​​Former Investment Banker turned International beauty queen turned Hollywood actress Ms. Preity Üpala will be the Hollywood presence at a historic Motion picture industry Board meeting to be held in China this August 2015.

Ms. Üpala will be attending the FPA- (Federation of Motion Picture Producers in Asia Pacific) Board meeting held in China later in August 2015. The nearly 60-Year-Old FPA, which comprises of film producers and film festival directors from Asia pacific is historical in the world with its great contributions to the Asian film industry. They meet this August for the purpose of strategizing how to raise global awareness of the Asian movie industry.

Preity is a board member of the FPA- Federation of Producers of Asia pacific and a Head delegate for India at the Asia Pacific film festival. Having worked across Four continents and speaking five languages imbues her with a unique position to be a bridge between the East and West. Apart from being an actor, she is also currently producing a TV show that is based on travel.

This meeting marks a historic moment, as it will be the first time in the History of the FPA that the Board will meet in the Mainland of China. This will also be the first time when the Chinese and the Taiwanese delegation will work so closely together. Keeping in mind the political tension between China and its territories such as Macau and Taipei, which have always had a very active role within the FPA, this will be a new start for a new kind of alliance between the two from which the Asian film industry can only benefit from.

Ms. Üpala will play an active role in this years meeting, flying in all the way from Los Angeles where she is based and will be discussing the collaboration of Hollywood and the Asia pacific film industry. In recent times, there has been a huge surge between Hollywood and Indian co productions as well as increased sales and distribution of Indian movies in Hollywood and vice versa. Preity’s role in the meeting is most exciting as she brings the passions, knowledge and the magic towards collaboration/ co-productions between Hollywood and Asian markets.

The FPA also organizes the prestigious APFF- Asia Pacific Film Festival, one of the oldest film festival in the world, with a different host city each year celebrating the Asian movie industry. Attended by the likes of Mr. Jackie Chan, Ziyi Zhang, Andy Lau, Irrfan Khan and several of the top Asian stars, this year will be no different.

A key highlight at the meeting will be Bangkok, the Host city of the Asia pacific film festival to be held in December 2015 and how it aims to produce a sensational festival this year. The Thailand Ministry of Culture will be supporting this festival and it is expected to be more glamorous and dynamic than ever, of course with splashing's of Thai warmth and hospitality. The APFF is scheduled to be held in Bangkok at the end of November 2015.

Preity says she is honored to be at the meeting alongside top producers in the region. Among them will be the legendary Japanese producer and festival director, Mr.Yasushi Shiina. Mr. Shiina is currently the director of the (TIFF)- Tokyo international film festival and will be attending the meeting, to discussing the future of his festival and its global impact. Preity hopes to attend TIFF later this year in the hope of connecting with producers and film makers from around the world.

Ms. Üpala who has been a head delegate for 5 years at the FPA says. “We are so connected these days. Movies bring people together; they make the world a smaller place. They are the greatest connective tools out there.”

Now almost a veteran visitor to China, having visited Mainland China as well as Taipei, Macau and Hong Kong, Ms. Üpala says, “I’m so excited to be part of this historic meeting to discuss the future of the FPA and film industry in our region. I look forward to a great meeting and expect great enthusiasm and collaboration between all parties involved. In the end, Cinema is the winner and the movie lovers get to have the last laugh”!
