Boom Marketing's director of operations discussed the team's travel pursuits, including their recent conference attendance. She also addressed their approach to goal-setting after these events.

“The environment at Boom Marketing is very fast-paced,” said Whitney, the company’s director of operations. “I’m not just talking about our daily activities in the office, either. We’re always on the go. For example, we recently returned from a quarterly leadership conference. We also enjoy rest and relaxation retreats every year, and we do plenty of inter-office trainings with our colleagues in other areas.”

Whitney explained that these travel opportunities allow everyone on the team to strengthen their relationships, which ultimately leads to better collaboration at work. “We benefit so much from our travels that it would be almost tragic if we didn’t put everything we gained into practice,” Whitney continued. “To make sure nothing is lost, we get together and evaluate our goals whenever we return from a conference or training. Then we refer to our new knowledge as we update our action steps. We even did this after our most recent leadership conference. Sometimes we adjust our goals all together, if necessary.”

According to Whitney, goal-setting is most effective when certain factors are considered. For instance, objectives should be specific enough that they can be measured, which is essential to tracking progress. Furthermore, everyone on a team should be involved in the process. When all professionals understand what must be accomplished, and how, the better able they will be to move forward.

“When our goals have been clearly defined, all of us at Boom Marketing are more comfortable with making decisions because we understand how their effects inform our progress,” Whitney stated. “In other words, the more knowledge we have, the better choices we make. That being said, it’s best not to adhere too rigidly to goals. We’re willing to change course if things aren’t going as we hoped. It’s good to have the guidance of a strategic plan, though. We certainly can’t predict the future, but we will absolutely prepare for it as much as possible. I strongly encourage all business leaders to do the same.”
