Creatives & Musicians Get Real-Life Help at AMMBCON Conference and CidaCo Academy

Facilitators are coming from The Grammys, YouTube, Vibe Magazine, SXSW and music labels.

Caribbean creatives, musicians and their management teams will get realistic, action-oriented help at this year’s Artiste Management Music Business Conference (AMMBCON) and associated CidaCo Creative Entrepreneurs Academy in August.

AMMBCON is the Caribbean’s #1 music business conference and is scheduled for August 19-21, 2015 at University of Trinidad and Tobago’s North Port of Spain Campus. Panels and workshops will offer artistes, producers, songwriters and managers with practical advice and solutions to the problems they’re facing. Topics range from how to market yourself effectively, how manage bookings, how jumpstart songwriting creativity, and how to produce ear-catching music.

“We know you may be thinking ‘another music conference?’” said ASK Promotions/AMMBCON CEO Stephen Howard. “But this isn’t one of those events where industry insiders preach and artistes walk away with little to help them move to the next level. AMMBCON is open to all Caribbean artistes who want to gain control over their music careers and make money in today's entertainment world.”

The Grammys, Vibe Magazine, YouTube, South by Southwest (SXSW) and the Bellamy Group are among those representing at AMMBCON.

“I am so excited to come to the Caribbean and share what I know about the music industry, how to acquire new fans and sell your music,” said Shani Sammons, a member of the Board of Governors for the Grammy Recording Academy.

SXSW Booking Programmer Todd Puckhaber has been an AMMBCON panelist the last two years and credits his decision to create the only country-specific showcase for Trinidad & Tobago at SXSW 2015 to his participation at the conference.

“There is a lot of undiscovered talent in the Caribbean and AMMBCON seems to be one of the few organizations trying to develop talent for the international market,” Puckhaber said.

Conference attendees also will get opportunities to perform at showcases on stages throughout Port of Spain, Trinidad and be considered to perform at music events throughout the world – like SXSW 2016 in Austin, Texas.

Preceding the three-day conference is AMMBCON’s Academy for Creative Entrepreneurs from August 12-18, 2015.  The Academy is the first of its kind in the Caribbean and is presented in partnership with Internationally renowned training group CidaCo. The Academy provides five days of immersion into the how’s, do’s and don’ts of being a creative practitioner.

“The Academy is noisy, fun, interactive, participative and deeply stimulating,” said CidaCo founder Anamarie Willis. “It’s an introduction to the reality of working in the creative sector – none of your classic ‘business speak’, smart suits, ‘sit and listen’ lectures. We talk about: How does an artist cost his time or price her work?  What’s the difference?  What’s the difference between creativity and innovation? How do you know when you’ve come up with an idea that has legs? Then how do you take from idea to reality? Why is it the same old people that get all the funding?”

Registration for AMMBCON Conference is $500 TTD ($80 USD) for the full three-day experience.

Academy registration is $2500 TTD ($400 USD) which includes entry into the AMMBCON Conference.

Members of Trinidad & Tobago’s National Artiste Registry are eligible for a 20% discount if they are among the first to register.
