Acuity Academy Announces Launch of Anti-Fraud Course for Nonprofit Organizations

Tiffany Couch

Tiffany Couch, CPA/CFF, CFE, founder and CEO of Acuity Forensics, a nationally recognized forensic accounting firm, has launched a new venture, Acuity Academy, aimed at ending insider fraud. Acuity Academy’s first initiative is Stop Nonprofit Fraud, an e-course delivered in video format that provides nonprofit board members and executives the education and tools necessary to protect their organization from financial fraud.

Nonprofit organizations are especially vulnerable to insider fraud, typically due to a perceived lack of resources, the belief that a most trusted employee has the finances handled and a lack of appropriate internal controls. According to the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners’ 2018 Report to the Nations, the median loss experienced by nonprofits in a typical fraud scheme is $75,000.

“Over the span of my 15-year career in forensic accounting, I have witnessed firsthand the heartbreaking effects that occur when fraud is perpetrated against nonprofit organizations. Make no mistake, it is financially and emotionally devastating when internal fraud occurs, imperiling the important work that nonprofits carry out. It is my mission to empower nonprofit leaders with the knowledge and tools to prevent insider fraud,” said Ms. Couch.

Stop Nonprofit Fraud contains six separate training modules, including the most prevalent fraud schemes in nonprofits, board member responsibilities, fraud prevention techniques and more. In addition, the course contains in-depth training on how to read and understand nonprofit financial reports and statements.

In addition to leading Acuity Academy, Tiffany Couch is the founder and CEO at Acuity Forensics, a Pacific Northwest forensic accounting firm with a national presence. She has more than 20 years of experience in the field of accounting, with the last 15 years focused completely on forensic accounting-related engagements. She has provided expertise as a source to The New York Times, Forbes, CNBC, NPR, The Wall Street Journal and First Business News. She is also a regular contributor to Fraud Magazine and the Vancouver Business Journal and has been interviewed for KING 5-TV in Seattle, iHeartRadio, KGW-TV in Portland and News Talk in Alberta, Canada. She is the author of the book “The Thief in Your Company,” which explores the financial and emotional impacts of insider fraud.
