Are you frustrated by a lack of response to your online and newspaper job hunting? Does it seem like you are not getting anywhere? Do not be too hard on yourself because you are not alone in feeling this way. There are many others that are experiencing the same tough trials. Perhaps the two most frustrating parts of job hunting are the sheer amount of time it takes searching for job openings and the lack of response after you've contacted those employers.

Let's examine some example results of a typical job hunter. If you step back and actually count the number of resumes and emails you send out, you will see that you are probably getting about a 1% to 5% response rate per 100 resumes you send out over a given period of time. So, if you could contact 100 employers per day, you would probably get about 1 to 5 of them calling you back to discuss interviewing. The average job hunter does not come close to contacting 100 employers a day nor sending out 100 resumes a day either.

One thing that job seekers have to understand is job hunting is a numbers game and every unemployed person should consider it as such. The question each person should ask themselves is how can I increase the number of resumes I send out daily? What methods can I use to send out at least 100 resumes a day? Sure you can try and accomplish this task manually by using online sites and newspapers but it would be very taxing to do so. The average person would not know where to begin in trying to accomplish this task.

Another fact to consider about finding a job is only about 20% of available jobs are posted online or in the newspaper. Can you believe that only 20% of job openings are known? Think about this, when you do a search on the big job boards like Monster or Careerbuilder, realize that you are only looking at possibly 20% of all job openings. The other job openings are not posted online. There are many reasons why the other 80% job openings are not known.

A few reasons why most job openings are not posted online is because word of mouth is still a strong job referral tool. As soon as a position becomes available within a company one of the employees tells a friend who is a perfect fit for the job. Another good reason why good jobs are not posted online or in newspapers is because companies do not want to spend the money on advertising.

With 20% of job openings posted online this means that you are constantly competing for each posted job opening with everyone else that is looking for a job. The competition in this dire economy is very high right now. Many cities are experiencing over 10% unemployment and some are in the 12% range. This is a sign of stiff competition for every job posted. As a result companies are taking their time sifting through all of the resumes they are receiving because they want to find the most qualified person for the job. Consequently they are doing more 2nd and 3rd interviews as well. Companies are being very careful and taking their time to find the right person that will also fit into their working environment.

There are two keys that every job seeker should be interested in learning about if they want to get employed faster. The first key is how to send your resume out to more employers or hiring managers on daily basis. The second key is how to reach the employers that have jobs but have not posted those job openings on the internet or local newspaper.

If you want to send out more resumes per day then you will need to research and create a list of companies in your area or outside of your area along with the contact information of their hiring managers, preferably their fax number. Faxing your resume to companies is a great way to submit your resume to hundreds of employers a week. The only downfall is this is painstaking work to have to create and organize. The good thing is you are targeting every company regardless if they have an ad in the newspaper or not. This is a good avenue to locating jobs within your city.
