Introducing Screwpulp, Self-publishing Platform
Memphis startup introduces a new way for authors to self publish.
Online, May 12, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Screwpulp announces the launch of an innovative self-publishing service that places the power of decision in the hands of authors and readers. This new platform creates engagement between authors and readers through a unique customer driven pricing model, and provides authors with built-in promotional tools and metrics to take control of their books success. Additionally, the service is non-exclusive and offers more revenue to authors than other similar services, giving them a flat 75 percent of all their book sales.
Less than 2 percent of all books submitted to a literary agent, on average, make it onto books shelves. After all the costs involved, authors usually receive less than 20 percent of their books' revenue. Screwpulp has developed a unique crowd-driven pricing model, where the price of a book is directly affected by how popular the book is. This model creates engagement by encouraging sharing and cross-promotion of the books. The price points and book rating system help provide clear indication to readers on the true value of a book. By taking advantage of existing social channels, such as Twitter and Facebook, along with their crowd-driven pricing model, Screwpulp virtually eliminates the barriers that exist in traditional publishing for authors. It also helps readers sift through all the noise to find books they are confident they will enjoy.
"I want to change a broken industry," says Richard Billings, Founder and Principal of Screwpulp, Inc. "Screwpulp is removing the obstacles that discourage so many authors, and empowers everyone to take control of publishing's future."
Books on Screwpulp are initially available to download free, in exchange for sharing it on Twitter or Facebook. Readers can only download one free book per day, and will be required to review the current free book they have, before they can download additional free books. However, if they don't wish to share the book, or want more than one book per day, they can purchase as many books as they like. After a book is downloaded 25 times, the book increases in value as it's been read and reviewed at least that many times, and becomes available for $1 (one dollar). As the book continues to gain traction and increase in downloads and reviews, it's price will continue to go up in single dollar increments. At the same time, authors will be able to track their progress and promote their book using metrics and marketing tools from their Screwpulp dashboard.
