Selling - Has The Modern World Killed The Planet's Second Oldest Profession?

New Consultancy aims to breathe new life into the old dog by employing methods from the Psycho-therapists chair.

Savvy brand conscious consumers have for a while believed that they are 'unsellable' but a new Clinical approach from Sales Psychologists, ZEN Clinical Coaching, is not only challenging this approach but proving that focusing on the 'Average Joe' Sales Professional, as much as the client, can change the way we buy.

Traditionally, the job of the sales person has been limited to employing a mental 'trick' so that they can 'close' the customer and ensure that they will buy. Some will, some won't; it is known in the trade as 'the numbers game.' But in today's sensory overload world customers are increasingly wary of being 'sold to.' So is the ancient art of selling really dead? Not according to a new breed of 'Sales Psychologists' epitomised by consultancies like ZEN Clinical Coaching. ZEN train and coach people in modern sales skills. They have started by throwing out the old methods in favour of a new 'Sales Professional' centred approach which focuses as much on the skills of the seller as the ability to convince those being sold to. Their Principal Consultant Ian Baldrey explains:

"Everyone needs to sell to some extent, but when taken as a career choice, we believe Sales should be viewed as a real Profession just like any other. You wouldn't want a medical student performing your complex operation so why would you want spend good money with someone who has just been trained that day and is doing it just for the commission? Our approach is to focus on the Sales Professional's Psychology and teach them how they have to balance their ability to encourage others to buy with their responsibility to their client and career. Selling products is at the heart of the Capitalist World - it moves money, creates employment and is no bad thing. We want to take the stigma away from the Profession by making those selling more accountable and better trained to service people's needs. So we teach our students to be proud to be Sales Professionals and to become an example to all with their integrity, work ethic and commitment to ensuring the client has their problem solved. But of course, not everyone will buy and clients can be demanding, so we empower those we coach with positive success Psychology using goal setting and subconscious programming techniques used by Clinical Psychologists."

This system is proven in the working world by ZEN's continuing association with Sports Professionals; as shown by their location in the Star Snooker Academy, at Sheffield United's training ground. In order to work with individuals properly, Zen almost always employ one to one coaching methods, but after years of work and testing with clients, they have finally managed to put all their teachings into a single course book called 'Average Joe to Perfect Pro.' In the book, the reader follows the journey of 'Average Joe' as he navigates the pitfalls of selling to turn from the 'average sales person,' into the 'perfect sales professional': from how sales departments work, where to find clients, how to sell to them effectively, through to moving up the career ladder. The book is perfect for those new to sales and selling; but, as we all should know, a good sales Pro is always learning, so they should pick up a copy too. It is currently available from http://www.zenclinicalcoaching.com/get-zen and Amazon's Kindle ebook store. Until they create a degree course in Sales and selling techniques, akin to the Marketing and Business Studies disciplines, then Average Joe and the Sales Psychology courses at Zen Clinical Coaching are one route to success for the Sales Professional.

ZEN are having a launch party for the course book at their offices in the Star Snooker Academy on 20th July to celebrate the fruition of all their hard work and showcase some new products they have been working on.
