Tom Trinley, CFO/COO The Coleman Foundation

The Coleman Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas D. Trinley as Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer. Tom is responsible for overall financial management, investment oversight, human resources, information technology, and other administrative responsibilities. He is a key strategic partner to the President/CEO and works with the Board of Directors to support their governance responsibilities.

"We are excited to have Tom join The Coleman Foundation. He complements our strong team culture, and we believe his impressive reputation for effectively managing philanthropic investments, mission strategy, project management, and communications make him the right choice to lead our finance and operations," announced Shelley A. Davis, president and CEO of The Coleman Foundation.

"It's an incredible privilege and honor to be a team member of The Coleman Foundation, especially for this newly created position," said Trinley. "I am excited to support, under Shelley's dynamic leadership, the Foundation's board and staff in carrying out its important philanthropic work serving critical needs for the people of Chicago. I'm looking forward to applying my finance and investment management, organizational development, and strategic communications skills to help leverage the Foundation's impact."

Tom has over 30 years of experience in the non-profit sector, including the past 18 years as director of finance and operations at the Gaylord & Dorothy Donnelley Foundation. He has used his analytical, and interpersonal skills to help organizations run more efficiently, thereby increasing mission outcomes. A hallmark of Tom's career is the belief that financial management is best applied within the context of a solid understanding of an organization's mission and its approach to programmatic implementation. His experience, on both the funder and grantee side, has provided insights that have fostered a management style bridging finance to program and vice versa.

The Coleman Foundation is a private grantmaking foundation endowed by entrepreneurs, Dorothy W. Coleman and her husband, J.D. Stetson Coleman, one-time owners of Fannie May Candies Company. The Foundation invests in the efforts of community-based organizations and local institutions to preserve and strengthen the physical health and the economic and emotional well-being of people living in and around Chicago. It invests in increasing personal empowerment, self-determination, and well-being through three programs; advancing entrepreneurship, developmental disability services, and patient-centered cancer care.
