Three Journeyman Electricians Receive Coveted CPE Credential

ALEXANDRIA, VA, June 28, 2017 (Newswire.com) - The Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) recently had three journeyman electricians — Matt Doth, Jacob Gray, and Scot Russell — pass its Certified Professional Electrician (CPE) Exam, becoming the newest recipients of the CPE Credential. 

The CPE Exam is a rigorous four-year comprehensive exam, testing the core concepts and topics learned throughout the IEC electrical apprenticeship curriculum. This exam is not intended for every recent Journeyman, but rather for those who excelled throughout their four-year training and have had great exposure to the field through their on-the-job training.

Exam Details

The exam is comprised of two sections, written and practical, that test the core concepts of IEC's curriculum. The written exam is made up of ninety questions, which include:

• Theory
• Transformers
• Motor Control Circuitry Theory
• Grounding and Bonding
• Code Review
• Practical Competencies

The practical exam is made up of eight timed testing stations, with the individual required to pass all eight stations on a pass/fail matrix. These stations include:

• Transformer Project A
• Transformer Project B
• Motor Controls Project
• Light Switch Project
• Chime Project
• Material Identification
• GFCI and Outlet Project
• Conduit Bending (two problems)
