100 Young California Volunteers To Be Sworn Into Active Duty At Once
Online, May 24, 2010 (Newswire.com) - This will be the largest group of inductees jointly sworn into all branches of the military at one time. This historic event, called "Keeping the Promise", is being hosted by the California Disabled Veterans Business Alliance. It will be held Monday, May 24th at 6:45 PM at the Irvine Marriott Hotel. 200 Disabled Veterans of all wars and 100 troops back from deployment will be on hand to salute America's newest warriors. There will also be congratulatory remarks by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Amongst all the excitement will be a special award presentation hosted by the renowned Tommy Lasorda. He will be presenting the "Tommy Lasorda Baseball Scholarship Award" to Fullerton High School student and "CY Young" Award Winner Christian Belleque, whose great-grandfather, grandfather, and uncle were all Veterans and whose cousin just returned from Iraq.
Christian is very deserving of this honor in the eyes of his baseball coach, Coach Batesole; "Christian is a winner and competitor who demonstrated the ability to pitch at a very high level throughout the summer. He posted an unheard of 99/4 BB/K ratio in his junior year. He then showed his toughness by joining his high school football team his senior year as a defensive lineman."
