11.2.11 Swap Candy for Cash at Halloween Candy Buy Back
Online, October 29, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Children and parents are invited to attend Halloween Candy Buy Back, a fun event that pays kids cash for their candy. Dr. Arthur Thurm in Collingswood, NJ is hosting this event on Wednesday, November 2, from 3 to 5pm. To participate, bring unopened Halloween candy in a disposable container to Thurm Dental Group at 925 Haddon Drive, and Dr. Thurm will pay $1 per pound (up to 5 lbs.) for your sweets.
Why Buy Back Candy?
Children tend to overindulge after a long evening of trick-or-treating, and the candy feast can last for days, weeks, or even months. In an effort to encourage moderation, healthy eating, and fewer cavities, Dr. Thurm and his staff are excited to host Halloween Candy Buy Back this year.
About the Program
Through Operation Gratitude, the collected candy will be shipped to active US Military troops serving overseas. Operation Gratitude hopes to send 100,000 toothbrushes with the treats this year, so our servicemen can maintain sparkling smiles and great oral health. Last year, the organization shipped 125 tons of candy to US troops and received an amazing amount of thank-you notes and videos in response.
Candy's Great in Moderation
Tooth decay is the most widespread childhood disease. The battle of tooth decay actually begins when bacteria passes from parent to infant through saliva. Once a child has the right bacteria in his mouth, it lives there until teeth erupt. Then, sugars and starches mix with saliva to create an acid that eats holes in tooth enamel. In these holes, bacteria invade and cause decay. Daily brushing and flossing, six-month checkups and cleanings, and regulating consumption of sugary treats can help reduce the risk for cavities. Dr. Thurm encourages parents to allow children to enjoy a few pieces of Halloween candy, but to also monitor the situation closely. Halloween Candy Buy Back keeps kids and parents happy about eating less candy, while also honoring the US Military.
