2011 International Ferret Symposium

Ferret enthusiasts will meet in Phoenix, AZ during the week end of June 3rd through the 5th to learn the latest in ferret health care.

The International Ferret Congress is pleased to announce the 2011 Ferret Symposium to be held in Tempe, AZ at the Fiesta Resort Conference Center.

This sixth proceedings of the American chapter will provide both ferret enthusiasts and veterinarian professionals with current health care information from colleagues as well as opportunites to network and socialize.

Ferret owners will be entertained and educated about ferrets at home and abroad. Special guest Bev Lowton from England will present information on Ferreting in the UK . Ailigh Vanderbush, animal behaviorist will discuss Ferret Behavioral Problems and Barb Carlson, shelter operator, will help those owners "Caring for a sick ferret at home."

Shelter operators will be treated to special workshops, including Creating a Ferret First Aid Kit and Developing an Emergency Action Plan. First aid kits and the Disaster Workshop are presented by F.E.R.R.E.T and sponsored by PetSmart Charities.

On Friday and Saturday veterinary professionals will have the opportunity to obtain continuing education credits. Matti Kiupel, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Pathology at Michigan State University, will present his research on enteric coronovirus and vaccine in ferrets and Robert Wagner, VMD, University of Pittsburgh veterinarian will discuss his research on Adrenal Disease and vaccine development. Clinical presentations on Lymphoma and other Neoplasms, Aleutian Disease Virus (ADV) Basics, Chemotherapy and other Cancer Treatments, and Common Ferret Surgeries will be covered by ferret specialists Jerry Murray, DVM, of the Framer's Branch (Texas) Animal Clinic, Natalie Antinoff, DVM, of Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in Houston, TX, and R. Avery Bennett, DVM, Professor of Veterinary Clinical Medicine at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
