AirSpace Consulting Lifts Filmmaking to New Heights with Commercial Aviation Experience

Hollywood studios and production companies interested in using unmanned aircraft (UA) for film projects will need commercial aviation professionals to help navigate the FAA's complex regulations, and AirSpace Consulting is rising to the challenge.

Company Offers 35+ Years of Commercial Aviation Experience, Expertise in Unmanned Aircraft and Knowledge of FAA Regulatory Requirements

In the wake of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granting aerial filming companies the conditional use of unmanned aircraft (UA) for commercial operations, AirSpace Consulting is rising to the challenge by helping Hollywood studios and production companies benefit from the incredible potential of UAs while fully complying with the FAA’s complex and extensive requirements.

"Hollywood is undeniably excited about the potential for unmanned aircraft systems to take cinematography to the next level, but the requirements are extensive - and it's looking like the burden of compliance is rigorous," said Gus Calderon, Founder of AirSpace Consulting. "Companies will need aviation professionals if they plan to file meet the complex regulatory requirements. AirSpace Consulting has just completed its first project and our clients are excited about being able to conduct commercial aerial cinematography for the motion picture and television industry."

On September 25 2014, U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced that for the first time, the FAA had granted regulatory exemptions to certain aerial photo and video production companies for the use of unmanned aircraft in the National Airspace System (NAS). This initial grant forms the foundation of the FAA’s regulation of UAs in commercial applications. Companies interested in the commercial use of UAs will be required to file a Petition for Exemption with the FAA. This process involves submitting detailed and operator specific information such as training manuals, operating manuals and safety procedures. Authorized operators will then need to comply with the FAA’s conditions for exemption and apply for Certificates of Authorization (COA) prior to conducting any flight operations. Commercial aviation professionals with extensive knowledge of UA technology are therefore essential for compliance with these requirements.

AirSpace Consulting is led by a team of experienced commercial pilots who offer over thirty five years of aviation industry experience, as well as first-hand knowledge of UAs from concept to production to operation. The founder of Airspace Consulting has an impressive track record of success, from owning and operating an FAA certified air charter company to most recently, working on designing Lady Gaga’s “Flying Dress” and piloting the flying machine – with Lady Gaga on board -- for its debut.
