American Music Abroad Night in New York City

The Association of American Voices presents a free evening event dedicated to American Music Abroad (AMA) in New York.

American Music Abroad Night in New York City

The Association of American Voices is proud to present an evening dedicated to American Music Abroad (AMA), a program designed to communicate America’s rich musical contributions to the global music scene as it fosters cross-cultural communication and people-to-people connection to global audiences. AMA represents a new generation of musical ambassadors, reaching beyond concert halls to interact with musicians and citizens of the world. Join us for a night of performance from AMA alumni, collaborations, and a jam session with global musicians.  This event is free and open to the public.

Featuring AMA Alumni:

Huntertones

Huntertones is a high energy horn-driven group founded in Columbus, OH and currently based in Brooklyn, NY. Their signature sound is a marriage of inspired improvisation and adventurous compositions that meld jazz, funk, soul, hip-hop, R&B, and rock. The band met at The Ohio State University and got their start playing house shows at their Hunter Avenue apartment. In addition to covering a wide range of genres, they’re known for the ability to shift from a dynamic six-piece ensemble to an unconventional trio featuring saxophone, sousaphone, and beat-boxing.

Soul Inscribed

The New York-based four-piece band Soul Inscribed mixes up a brew of Hip Hop poetics and soulful vocals, propelled by a sonic blend of Jazz, Funk and Dub instrumentals. Featuring MC/producer Baba Israel, vocalist Duv, saxophonist/flutist Sean Nowell and multi-instrumentalist/producer Yako 440 on guitar and bass (which he often plays simultaneously on stage), Soul Inscribed flows seamlessly between crafted songs and improvisation grounded in the traditions of Jazz and Hip Hop. All four members are also human beatboxers who weave dynamic vocal percussion into their shows.

Countries toured with American Music Abroad: Russia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Mauritius

The band’s signature cello rock sound has bridged the gap between classical, rock and world music listeners. Patrick will be sharing stories from the band’s time on the road, as well as video of a song created with a local musician in Kazakhstan during the band’s American Music Abroad tour.
