Artist/Author Debby Carman Supports "Reach Out And Read" With Her "Bowzers and Meowzers" Children's Book Series
Online, November 11, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Artist/Author Debby Carman will be donating copies of her hardcover dog and cat picture book series to the national organization, Reach out and Read . The books will eventually make their way into the hands of doctors, nurse practitioners and other medical professionals where they will become a part of wellness check-up programs, starting in California. The titles donated include: "I'm Gronk and I'm Green;" "Kittywimpus Got Game;" "Cha Cha The Dancing Dog'" "I'm Maximum Cat, That's A Fact;" "Chewdalootie Doing My Duty;" and "Purrlonia's Lullaby."
Carman's characters and curriculum are designed to help children deal with childhood challenges like understanding responsibility, following rules and building self-esteem. Carman's plan is to donate one book copy for each book sold anywhere in the U.S. According to Carman, "In these hardest of economic times, and in the face of numerous global catastrophes, I feel it's time to contribute to those who will benefit from the value inspiring messages of my books, especially those families who can't financially afford the wonderment of a shared reading experience." Carman's book series can be found via all the major online booksellers. Each title retails for around Fifteen dollars.
Reach out and Read was established in 1989 as an evidence-based nonprofit organization that promotes early literacy and school readiness via pediatric exam rooms nationwide by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud. Families served by Reach out and Read read together more often, and their children enter kindergarten with larger vocabularies and stronger language skills, better prepared to achieve their potential. According to Jackie Miller, National Book Coordinator for Reach Out and Read, "Connections to books and the worlds they open for children can make a huge difference to children growing up. Generous donations from authors like Debby Carman ensure that children--especially those living in poverty-- will have books that can help shape their lives." Of the 3.9 million families served annually, many come from low-income communities.
