Ashish Shameem Is Getting An Education In The Corporate World Through An Internship At Lifestyle

Online, July 21, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Specialising in Retail and Marketing, he is concentrating on various customer loyalty programmes. On facing the customer one-on-one, he says, you have to have confidence, considerable market knowledge and awareness of the customers' wants and needs.

With Shameem's interest in customer relationship and consumer behavior, his internship really matches his profile, with all the challenges and excitements. He looks back on his first day on the job. He was asked to go out, visit some stores and learn about the market - but he didn't know the places he was to visit and "no idea" about speaking Hindi.

"But somehow I managed and got a bus," said Shameem, "I finally reached the spots I was asked to go. Even this simple experience was good for me and it was a good start for my project."

He says that he was lucky to land into the Lifestyle internship - a friend of the family working in human resources at Max, fashion brand, helped get the job. While doing an internship away from his hometown (Charummood in the Alappuzha District, Kerala) could pose some problems, so far he has not encountered any really difficult ones barring some minor ones.

He found accommodation with friends in Bangalore as a "paying guest" and is eating out, but he has to be up and away early as due to heavy traffic, it takes him two hours to reach office.

Shameem says, "I am really enjoying the experience - it's totally different from what I had in my mind." Working in the corporate head office he has Debasish Gupta, General Manager (Marketing), as his mentor. Shameem believes that is a boon, as he is helping him learn how Lifestyle operates and the crux of company's loyalty programme - The Inner Circle (TIC).

Shameem also praises the support he is getting from SCMS-COCHIN, in particular Prof. V. Rajagopal, Professor Quantitative Techniques. Prof. Rajagopal has a great deal of corporate experience, which he shares with Shameem and always has an answer for any questions he may have. "I am lucky to have him as a guide and mentor."
