If the idea of automatic car doors closing sounds good to you, then you probably have been faced with trying to shut the door when surrounded by heavy traffic. The television commercials that addressed the problem of a door being swiped away were not figments of the imagination. That unfortunate situation happens more often than we (or the insurance company) would like to consider. The Automatic Car Door Close is a hydraulic arm or system built-into vehicle driver and passenger doors which enables the motorists to close the door in a hands-free manner. The design intent is to provide motorists with a safer means of closing car doors when seated in the vehicle, thus sparing them the difficulties and dangers inherent with leaning out of the car or getting completely out in order to close the door.
This unit can be integrated at the point of vehicle manufacture or can be offered as an aftermarket accessory to be retrofitted to existing vehicle doors. It is made of heavy duty, rust-resistant metal and is a moveable arm that bridges the juncture between the vehicle door and the framework of the car. The support arm can be hinged or spring-loaded, enabling it to expand or contract with the positioning of the door. The hydraulic mechanism is pressure-activated and wired to the vehicle’s electrical system. It can be programmed to automatically activate several seconds after the door is open and user enters or exits the vehicle. A motion sensor detects the presence of any object, person or appendage preventing the door from closing on the motorist. Televised test marketing has recently been completed indicating strong consumer interest in the Automatic Car Door Close.
The Patent Pending Automatic Car Door Close was invented by Margaret Wise of Bronx, NY who said, “Many drivers today are focused on things that may not include driving. The Automatic Car Door Close spares a motorist the challenging task of manually closing the door and is an alternative to leaning far out in order to pull a heavy door shut. Dangerous mishaps will not occur when using the Automatic Car Door Close. It works.”
