Belal Hamideh Law: Contracting COVID-19 at Work Qualifies for Workers Compensation

Belal Hamideh Law, a personal injury attorney in Long Beach, advises workers that, should they contract the coronavirus (COVID-19) while on the job, they would qualify for workers’ compensation due to viral/toxic exposure.

As of this writing, Los Angeles County now has 40 confirmed COVID-19 cases. That number is, unfortunately, likely to rise. This disease is highly contagious and can spread easily from person to person. Across America, many companies have advised their workers to work from home so as to stop the spread of the virus.

For years, Belal Hamideh Law has assisted workers who have dealt with toxic exposures or other kinds of injuries at work. They have been able to get workers compensation in the form of medical treatment reimbursement, temporary disability benefits, permanent disability benefits, and others.

“Hopefully, the COVID-19 outbreak stops, but it’s entirely possible it rages on for some time. If you believe that you’ve gotten it from work, then it’s critical that you get workers’ compensation. Hopefully, more employers realize that the best course of action for their companies as well as their employees is to let more of them work from home. However, the employee must be able to prove that they got the coronavirus at work in order to get workers’ compensation benefits. It may be hard to prove you contracted the coronavirus at work as opposed to outside of work, in which caseworkers compensation wouldn’t cover. We’re here to help anyone who’s contracting the virus just from doing their jobs.” said Belal Hamideh.

According to the CDC, the symptoms may appear anywhere from two to fourteen days after exposure. They typically manifest as mild to severe respiratory illness including difficulty breathing, cough, and fever.
