Big Bear Choppers Praises New Motorcycle Awareness Initiatives
Online, July 11, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Motorcycle safety is an issue that many new bikers must be fully aware of before taking their vehicles to the street. However, drivers must also make the proper precautions to share the road and watch for motorcyclists to avoid serious, and sometimes fatal, collisions. A new report from Motorcycle Cruiser reveals a new program, called "Once is Never Enough" (ONE) set forth by All State Insurance. It aims to increase signage on intersections as a way to keep everyone aware of the appropriate safety measures that prevent accidents on the road. Big Bear Choppers has produced many specialty and custom bikes for new and seasoned riders all across the globe. The company applauds this effort and extends encouragement for everyone on the road to remain careful.
According to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System, "46 percent of all multi-vehicle motorcycle fatalities (5,746 out of 12,571 fatalities from 2006-2010) occurred at intersections." The article notes that All State Insurance has referred to these numbers as motivation to address a very serious danger for both motorists and motorcyclists; looking for motorcyclists only once at an intersection is never enough to avoid accidents. The ONE program involves the installation of a yellow, diamond-shape sign and has been implemented in over 30 U.S. cities.
The company has worked with many local authorities to determine which intersections are the most dangerous and are in need of proper signage. All State employee, Mike Porter tells Motorcycle Cruiser, "As a rider in Baltimore, being seen at intersections should always be top of mind, especially on our crowded roads. The addition of these motorcycle warning signs will be a great reminder to help keep everyone safe."
Big Bear Choppers recognizes this necessity by stating that there are many signs that aim to protect new and old drivers alike, but very few signs meant to encourage safer practice involving motorcyclists. Kevin Alsop, founder of Big Bear Choppers comments, "Allstate Permanent warning signs bring awareness and give motorists a much needed reminder that they are not the only ones on the road. Motorcyclists are overlooked, and many times disrespected."
While all collisions are unfortunate situations, Alsop provides more insight into the dangers that motorcyclists face, "The large numbers of new riders on the road deserve as much respect as a cars and trucks. We are more exposed and vulnerable." Following that logic, he and the other employees at Big Bear Choppers urge everyone to drive and ride with caution, even if a sign is not present.
