Black Cat Fireworks Joins Up With University Of Huddersfield
Online, July 4, 2011 (Newswire.com) - For the first time ever Black Cat and Standard Fireworks are offering a fantastic opportunity to 115 design students from the University of Huddersfield, in the form of a 3 year project to design firework packaging. The designs could be used on actual fireworks and sold in the likes of some of their large customers such as Tesco, Sainsburys, Homebase and many more.
Brent Hardy-Smith, Head of design at the University of Huddersfield said, "It's a fantastic opportunity for the students to work with an external company, to understand how packaging works in a real life setting and hopefully see one of their designs go into production. It's also a great opportunity for students to get some real work into their portfolios. This is the first time that the University of Huddersfield has been able to work with an external company on a 3 year design project and we are sure it will be a great success. "
Helen Ashton, Marketing Manager at Black Cat and Standard Fireworks commented, "We are confident that the students will bring an injection of fresh ideas and new design inspiration to our brands and it's great to be able to work with the University across a 3 year project"
The launch briefing was held on Monday 13th June at the University of Huddersfield and the students then have 3 weeks to create firework packaging design concepts, including firework names and fonts. The students are all first years studying graphic design, illustration and advertising.
The deadline for completion of designs is Monday 4th July, the University will then collate the firework packaging designs which will be reviewed by Black Cat and Standard Fireworks along with the University Head of Design on Thursday 7th July. On this review day there will be an opportunity for the media to interview students about the project, view the designs and also speak with the University Head of Design and Managers from Black Cat and Standard Fireworks about the project.
Following the review day in July Black Cat and Standard Fireworks will select 4-5 students to work on a more detailed brief during August. In June 2012 Black Cat and Standard Fireworks will then update the same students (who will then be in year 2), on what designs were actually used and brief the project again. The project then runs again for year 3, so the same students will see a real life progression of how design and packaging works in an external company across a 3 year period.
