Canton Business First to Go Solar

Online, November 10, 2010 (Newswire.com) - This month, AmeriPlus Financial became Canton, Michigan's first commercial business to embrace clean energy technology by installing a solar energy system on its office rooftop. The 20,000 watt photovoltaic system is expected to save AmeriPlus Financial around $3,000/year in utility charges.

"It was the right thing to do and the right time to do it," says Aadil Nathoo, President and Founder of AmeriPlus Financial. "Issues like climate change and foreign oil dependence are critical concerns for our country. Yet, they are such global issues that people often feel helpless in dealing with them. We wanted to show that something positive could be done locally. Also, having a strong set of financial and tax incentives in place meant that we could do it now."

Through the SolarXchange Program, a partnership between United States Solar & Wind (Plymouth, MI) and DTE, AmeriPlus Financial was able to install 46 panels on their rooftop with no upfront costs. Nathoo adds, "This is a unique 'lease to own' program from United States Solar where federal and state tax incentives, along with funding from DTE, covers the installation costs. Immediately, we should see our utility bill drop by 25% without having to spend a dime. Over a five-year period, ownership of the system will transfer to the client and we will see our savings grow to nearly $5,000/year."

Over the 20-year lifetime of the system, AmeriPlus Financial expects to save over $87,000 in utility costs.
