City Beach Holds Indoor Rock Climbing Competition for the "Average Joe"

Online, November 1, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Rock Climbing isn't just for daredevils and live-on-the-edge (of a cliff nonetheless) intrepid souls any longer: the average Joe and Jane can not only participate, but show their mettle in a new competition. Hosted by the City Beach Rock Club in Fremont, CA, the Everyman Climbing Competition offers a series of four competitions in which anyone can enter-and anyone can win.

"Rock climbing competitions can be intimidating for any rock climber," says Rock Club Manager Marcus Odor. "City Beach created this competition to give everyone, no matter their climbing level or age, a chance to compete in this challenging sport and show off their skills."

The competition series happens over the course of 4 months, one comp per month starting in November 2011 and ending February 2012, when a series champion for each division will be crowned. There are four categories you can enter: Recreational, Intermediate, Advanced and Open, giving opportunity for all levels of climbers to participate. Competition climbs are done by bouldering, climbing on a boulder without a harness. Points will be accrued based on difficulty of individual climbs and a winner for each category will be chosen. As well, every competitor is entered into a competition raffle for prizes, giving everyone the chance to win something fun.

"This competition is about having fun while getting to climb alongside some of the top climbers in the area," Odor adds, "We want to give climbers a chance to have folks come and cheer them on at what they love. We're not taking ourselves too seriously." That is shown by the event themes each day, from Pirates versus Ninjas to Heroes versus Villains. Climbers and guests are encouraged to dress up and show off, and observers can expect to see a ninja, a pirate, a zombie, a vampire or a superhero climbing and getting their game on with epic post-comp battles.
