Clark College to Host New Music Festival
Online, October 1, 2009 (Newswire.com) - Clarke College will host a new music festival in Dubuque at Jansen Music Hall from October 8-10 featuring over eighty works on eleven separate concerts. Nearly seventy living composers from all through out the country will have works performed including fifteen composers with ties to the state of Iowa.
The festival marks a joint effort between the Iowa Composers Forum and Society of Composers, Inc. Performing ensembles include the University of Iowa's Center for New Music, the Maia String Quartet, Due East, the Clarke College choir, and the Butler New Music Ensemble.
All festival concerts are free and open to the public. Thursday, October 8th concerts are at 2 pm, 4 pm and 7:30 pm; Friday, October 9th concerts are at 10 am, 2 pm, 4 pm and 7:30 pm; and Saturday, October 10th, concerts are at 10 am, 2 pm, 4 pm, and 8 pm.
The festival will feature performances of Hibernia Suite by Des Moines composer Linda Robbins Coleman; Tango by Cedar Rapids composer Jerry Owen; Fricas, Fracas, Frucas by Cedar Rapids composer Ralph Kendrick; Trio D'Anches by Cedar Falls composer Alan Schmitz; Point of No Return by Iowa City composer Michael Eckert; So it Goes... by Iowa City composer Christopher Gainey; Six Degrees of Separation by Decorah composer Brooke Joyce; Dance of the Waterflame by Davenport composer William Campbell; and The Heavens Resplendent at Twilight by Des Moines composer Melody Dawning DeVos.
