Curves Fitness Solutions to Receive Business Achievement Award for CurvesSmart Innovation

Canadian American Business Council awards Curves International and Mytrak Health System the 2010 Business Achievement Award for cross-border collaboration on personalized fitness solutions.

The Canadian American Business Council, the voice of the Canadian American business community, announced the recipients of the prestigious 2010 Canadian American Business Achievement Award Winner.

On November 5, 2010 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia, Curves International of Waco, Texas, and Mytrak Health System, of Mississauga, Ontario, will receive the award for their collaboration in designing, developing, and installing CurvesSmart, a tangible method to successfully motivate club members by displaying to them the health benefits and disease prevention that is directly associated with their increased fitness.

"We are honored to receive this recognition," said Curves founder and CEO Gary Heavin. "To further our mission of strengthening women, we're priveleged to work with MyTrak to make CurvesSmart-the world's most advanced fitness coach-available to millions of women globally."

CurvesSmart is a state-of-the-art personal coaching system that has been incorporated into Curves' 30-minute circuit workout. It works by storing each member's fitness information and giving them moment-by-moment feedback. CurvesSmart automatically adjusts to an individual's endurance level to allow members to stay continually challenged and achieve their potential on each machine, during every workout. CurvesSmart then automatically computes all of the workout data to produce detailed progress reports that show overall muscle strength, fitness progression, calories burned and more.

Development of CurvesSmart began in 2005, with a national US launch in the fall of 2008. Currently, there are more than 4,300 Curves locations offering CurvesSmart in nearly 20 countries.

Each year, the Canadian American Business Council (CABC) identifies innovative and successful alliances between Canadian and American businesses to recognize the benefits that these partnerships bring to both countries - in jobs, innovation, and revenue creation. The group of judges (made up of prominent members of the Canada - US business and academic communities) considers sustained profitability, job creation, financial strength, environmental responsibility, and exceptional innovation. Past award winners have included Research in Motion (RIM), Intel Corporation, CMC Electronics, and Active Control Technology.

"The judges for this year's Business Achievement Award were not only impressed by the working partnership between the two companies but also by the positive impact their solution has on improving the lifestyle and health of individuals in North America," said Jordan Robinson of CABC's Board of Directors and Chair of the 2010 Judging Panel.

"The CABC is pleased to recognize that through their joint efforts, Curves International and Mytrak Health System have created a technology and a very successful cross-border alliance that serves as an excellent example of Canadian and American companies making things together."
