Dinara Safina Retires From Tennis

Dinara Safina is retiring from the sport she loves. She had enjoyed tremendous success during her time but her body is not cooperating anymore due to injuries. Hence, she is forced to retire.

Marat Safin, the Brother of renowned tennis player, Dinara Safin, said that she has retired from the game. Safin reported to the R-Sport on Friday October 8, 2011. The decision Safina calls is the next step in her life.

The month of May saw Safina taking an indefinite break from tennis as she was recuperating from a back pain that troubled her since long. She showed unwillingness to take a toll on her body and herself any further.

Her brother said that Dinara can lead a normal life daily, but cannot be into sports anymore. Safina tasted success in the year 2001 and earned herself 12 WTA titles. The No.1 position belonged to Safina in the month of 2009 April, this position lasted her for 26 long weeks, but early 2010, got her a serious back injury and her position slipped off from Top 20, as the year ended.
The 2008 Beijing Olympics got her silver though she also lost three Grand Slam finals.

Her brother said, "An athlete has lived with sports for 20 years. Now she needs a year to pull herself together, then she will decide," Adding further, "She is only 25 and there's no need to hurry her."

Safina and Marat are the only brother sister pair to have reached the top position in tennis history. Marat retired in the year 2009. He enjoyed impeccable success in 2000.

Earlier this month, Marat said on Safina's condition: 'If you recall, Dinara first suffered the injury in Beijing two years ago. She had tried several times to make a comeback but it only caused her more problems. 'Now she must think of herself, not if she could play again, but just to live a normal life. She must continue with her therapy, but would not be able to play again. 'She will make an official announcement, but being her brother, I think she has no chance at all of making a comeback.'
