Online, August 30, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Doug's Music & Comedy Night features two hours of stand-up comedy, spoken word and live music at the Storycrafter Studio on 73rd & Collins on Miami Beach. This is the first production by local writer and occasional stand-up comedian Doug Shear, so it could turn out to be either amazing or a total disaster. The two hour show features stand-up comedy, live music and Doug's "Directional Dyslexia," performed by local actress Shauna Burris.
The show is from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM. After those two hours zoom by, there's plenty of fun on the street, with restaurants and shops and a stroll to the beach. General Admission Tickets are only $15.00, or you can purchase a "couch seat" and really lounge around. Food & Drinks will be available for purchase.
Storycrafter Studio is the brainchild of successful Author & Publisher Cynthia Clay. Ms. Clay, formerly a member of the American Repertory Company, is working to develop Storycrafter Studio into one of the most original, eclectic venues on Miami Beach. "We'll be producing both short and full-length plays, comedy acts, live music, puppet shows, local artist exhibitions and more." she stated. "Doug's show is going to be amazing."
Doug Shear is the author of two books: Rhubarb Culture, a futuristic novel set in a Miami, and American Karma, a memoir about hitchhiking across America in the 1970s. His stage play Saint Peter at the Gate was performed in Toronto, Canada and Boca Raton, Florida.
Doug has been invited three times to present his material at the popular Miami event Lip Service Stories, held at the Actors Playhouse in Coral Gables, Florida. He also performed A Loophole in Law of Karma at Life Out Loud in Ybor City, Florida,
When asked what he hopes to accomplish with Doug's Music and Comedy Night, he replied, "I've been a little depressed lately. I'm hoping the audience can make me laugh, because I could really use a good laugh."
Doug's been looking forward to performing at the Storycrafter Studio because the atmosphere is so unique. "It's an Art Gallery, so you're surrounded by Art," he noted. "And also dozens of scary, hand-painted puppets hanging all over the place. It's crazy. You have to see it to believe it."
Doug is happy to connect with anyone short of an axe murderer on Facebook, Linked-In, Twitter or YouTube, or his website dougshear.com. If you murder someone with an axe, you may be un-friended. Contact him at [email protected].
Joining Doug are two of the hottest local stand-up comedians, Daniel Reskin & Kevin Perry, mainly because they can't afford air-conditioners. They were hand picked out of hundreds of other applicants who rejected Doug, and it turns out they are really clever and funny.
Daniel Reskin was born and raised in Miami but doesn't see how that's relevant. It could lend to his varied style, mixing deadpan joke-craft with theatrical stories. The accents, feeling out of place with no tan, heavy on wit and wordplay, maybe. "I don't want to tease the audience," he stated. "I'm a feel good comic."
Daniel has been making people feel good for several years and his monthly showcase, Casa de Haha, named one of the 6 Best Comedy Venues in Miami, and has become the standard for a quality show. Reskin was named The Best Local Comic in Miami by Miami New Times, and has showcased multiple years at the South Beach Comedy festival. He produces a podcast version of Casa de Haha, available free on iTunes and his website DanielReskin.com. Daniel could very well become famous, so see him now for bragging rights later on. Connect with Daniel on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or his website DanielReskin.com, or email him at [email protected].
Kevin Perry is another young comic who could become the next Seinfield or Ish Kabibble or maybe the next Daniel Reskin. Making the jump from the "big house" to the big stage was the only logical step for this funny guy...especially since there are no background checks in standup comedy. Kevin's ability to turn the tragedy of his life into bite size chunks of laughter is made all the more amazing when you realize he's not just telling jokes, he's bearing his soul.
Kevin's clawed past thousands of wannabe comics with his unique humor to reach the finals of the South Beach Comedy Fest at the Miami Improv. "Flashes in the pan are made on the internet," he stated, "Legends are made on the stage." Watch him on stage and behold a legend being born. His website is [email protected], or connect with him on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
Boston-based singer/songwriter Matt Silverstein toured as the lead singer of the band Homebody before going solo. He plays several instruments and is both a performer and music producer. A graduate of the Berklee School of Music in Boston, Matt performs at colleges and clubs throughout the Northeast. He will perform several of his most popular songs for this rare South Florida visit - possibly more if the Comedians bomb. To schedule performances or music production, Matt should be contacted at [email protected].
As a special treat, local Actress Shauna Burris will perform a short piece entitled "Directional Dyslexia." The piece was written by Doug Shear, and was meant to be performed by a man. But after being challenged by Cynthia Clay to rewrite it from a female point of view, Doug was forced to get in touch with his feminine side. Unfortunately his feminine side turned out to be an obese, middle-aged woman.
The final piece will be performed by the beautiful and incredibly talented Shauna Burris. Talk about a future star. Shauna gained significant acting experience and credentials in both theatre and film productions, and played the starring role in the play Flesh and Blooders at Storycrafter Studio, which recently ended a successful run. She can be contacted at [email protected]
With all this talent and fun, Doug's Music & Comedy Night is poised to be an amazing entertainment experience, and for the price, you would be crazy not to go. Tickets are available online at storycrafterstudio.com, or at the door if all 50 seats don't sell out, which is highly unlikely.
