DWG Helps Leading Electronics Manufacturing Services Provider Transition Operations Between Facilities
Online, November 21, 2013 (Newswire.com) - DWG, an Atlanta-based supply chain enablement company that works to bring trading partners together through technology, announced today that its project management services have helped one of the world's largest electronics manufacturing services (EMS) providers successfully transition processes, personnel, equipment, and systems from a recently acquired facility to one of its larger, established facilities in order to benefit from its existing infrastructure.
DWG's customer acquired the facility in conjunction with a decision by its customer to outsource a greater portion of its manufacturing operations and recognize an infusion of cash that came from shedding some of its physical infrastructure.
Encompassing multiple product lines, extensive equipment, and a workforce made up of some personnel transitioning and some staying behind, the challenge of moving all operations to another facility was a daunting task. Further complicating the effort was the shadow of a fast-approaching lease expiration on the acquired facility with significant financial penalties if an extension was needed.
Project management expertise was required to not only oversee an effective operational transition but adding to the complexity, key business documents such as purchase orders and invoices needed to be automated between the new facility and the customer to ensure the EMS provider's systems could support their newly transitioned operations.
Initially choosing to do the project in-house, numerous delays and obstacles caused the EMS provider to realize that it needed help completing the project on time and on budget. DWG, because of its experience and expertise in leading large, complex B2B automation and system implementation projects, was selected to get the project back on track.
"Complex initiatives such as what this project entailed may not come around often but when they do it's critical that there is a strict adherence to the timeline, all parties effectively collaborate, and most importantly, the ongoing business is not negatively impacted," stated Bill Woerner, Managing Director at DWG. "Though the project was initially off-track, we were able to help quickly get all parties aligned and marching in the same direction allowing our customer and its partner to be successful."
With DWG's leadership and project management expertise, the EMS provider was able to smoothly and efficiently implement the automated signals and transition the necessary systems, allowing them to realize the benefits of consolidating all operations under one roof.
