Ellen M. Beatty Joins NORC at the University of Chicago as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President

Ellen M. Beatty joins NORC at the University of Chicago as its new chief financial officer and executive vice president leading the organization’s Finance, Accounting, Contracts, Grants & Procurement, Human Resources, and Facilities Management departments.

Beatty will join NORC’s executive council, where she will bring her knowledge and skill to help guide organizational decision-making. NORC’s CFO also serves as Corporate Treasurer, a Board of Trustees-elected position, responsible for all financial matters of the corporation. Beatty will provide the necessary financial information and guidance to inform decisions about the company’s mission, vision, and strategy.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ellen to NORC. Ellen’s talent and depth of experience make her uniquely qualified to be NORC’s next CFO, and we are eager to learn from her,” said Dan Gaylin, president and CEO of NORC. “NORC is emerging from the initial stresses of the pandemic with renewed vigor and many important new projects. We look forward to continued success as we expand our role as a trusted source of essential information for the nation during these unprecedented times.”

Beatty joins NORC from The Aerospace Corporation, a $1 billion nonprofit that operates a federally funded research and development center, where she served as the vice president, CFO, and treasurer since 2011. Prior to joining Aerospace in 2008, Beatty led financial planning and capital investment processes at TXU Energy.

“It was paramount that we welcome a team member who can effectively balance the analytical demands of the role while also understanding the importance of NORC’s strategic objectives,” said Jim Dunne, outgoing CFO and executive vice president at NORC. “NORC has been on a path of great growth, and I know Ellen will help the organization build on that momentum.”

As a seasoned financial executive, Beatty has a broad range of expertise in nonprofit research institutions, with a specific focus around government contracting and regulatory compliance.

“I’m excited to join an organization that places such a high value on innovation,” said Beatty. “A CFO naturally focuses on the finances and systems that help drive the organization forward. At NORC that means working collaboratively with teams across the organization to develop innovative solutions in all of our subject area domains and using all of our technical capabilities to foster continued success.”

Beatty is a CPA with an MBA from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and is currently Chicago Booth’s advisory board co-chair. She has been a member of Financial Executives International for more than 20 years and was chosen as a 2001 American Marshall Memorial Fellow for her professional accomplishments and leadership.
