First Bryant Park Bloomsday Breakfast Begins NYC's Celebration of Irish Author

Online, June 10, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Culture Ireland and Irish Arts Center present A Bloomsday Breakfast in Bryant Park

(New York, New York) Waltzing dancers in Edwardian costumes, actors reading passages from Ulysses, free breakfasts and Joycean musical recitals will transform New York's Bryant Park into an Edwardian garden party this June 16th to kick-off Bloomsday, the international celebration of Irish author James Joyce and his groundbreaking novel Ulysses, which follows its central character Leopold Bloom through a single day, June 16, 1904.

A Bloomsday Breakfast in Bryant Park begins as the novel began with an Irish breakfast, served in honor of the iconic opening scene. The festivities, which run from 8 AM until 10 AM, include musical performances by special guests Songs of Joyce, a selection of readings from Ulysses, and a donation of 100 copies of the novel to New York Public Library, Queens Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library and Bryant Park Reading Room.

A Bloomsday Breakfast in Bryant Park takes place in the park's Upper Terrace, appropriately in the shadows of the main branch of the New York Public Library, between 5th Avenue and the Avenue of the Americas and between 40th and 42nd Street.

First observed in 1954, Bloomsday is now an annual worldwide phenomenon, celebrated from Dublin to Tokyo. New York's new Bloomsday event is presented by Culture Ireland and the Irish Arts Center as part of Imagine Ireland, Culture Ireland's year of Irish Arts in America.

Breakfast will be provided by Tommy Moloney's. The event is in cooperation with the Bryant Park Corporation.

Bloomsday vintage attire is optional, but encouraged. Rain or shine.
