FOR VETERAN PRODUCER AND AUTHOR TROY DEVOLLD, REALITY TV IS NO JOKE

Second edition of bestselling book on "unscripted" TV to be released in June

Producer Troy DeVolld is doing his best to live up to his burgeoning reputation as reality television’s go-to guru on story and structure.

His 2011 bestselling handbook on the skein, Reality TV: An Insider’s Guide to Television’s Hottest Market, has already topped the book charts for years and is a staple in university media programs and libraries as far away as Italy and South Africa. The second edition is set for release on June 1, 2016 with some retailers filling pre-orders for the book as early as May 10.

"Having produced hundreds of hours of network "reality" programs, I was impressed with the author's research and grasp of the ins and outs of an ever-expanding genre in television programming. "Reality TV" should be used as a great guide in all broadcast and journalism schools."

Albert Fisher, Fisher Media Productions

DeVolld authored Reality TV after growing frustrated with the absence of a definitive book on reality’s story process that he could recommend to students and writers looking to expand into the genre.

Featuring updated information and exercises for aspiring and working reality producers alike, the second edition also boasts a foreword from Big Brother Executive Producer Allison Grodner and the endorsements of a number of Hollywood heavyweights and academics alike, many of whom have been surprised by DeVolld’s passionate, analytical approach to what many critics regard as disposable entertainment.

Jokes one working producer in the book’s blurbs, “There is no one on this planet — and I mean no one — who understands better than Troy DeVolld the medium and business of unscripted television. He is the Aristotle of reality TV… and this is his “Poetics.” - Chad Gervich (Writer/Producer: Cupcake Wars, Wipeout, After Lately, Dog with a Blog, Sex Sent me to the ER).

DeVolld, who has lectured on reality storytelling in places as far-flung as London and Tel Aviv, has enjoyed a career that stretches back more than fifteen years to MTV’s Fear and The Osbournes.  His resume includes stints on some two dozen projects including genre-defining hits like The Surreal Life, Dancing With the Stars, Basketball Wives and others.
