A wave of armchair generals will descend on Valley Forge, Pennsylvania on July 7-10 for HISTORICON 2011, the nation's largest gathering of historical miniature gamers. HISTORICON, so large that The Wall Street Journal called it the "mother of all wargaming conventions," attracts thousands of military history and gaming enthusiasts each year to a four-day extravaganza of games, displays, seminars, workshops and shopping.

HISTORICON's activities include non-stop historical miniatures gaming, a giant exhibitor hall, painting and modeling competitions and classes, a large flea market, workshops, game demos and "mega" games. The convention also features a comprehensive "War College," with nationally-recognized speakers presenting seminars on a wide range of military topics.

The most popular part of the convention is always the hundreds and hundreds of games that allow participants to command a miniature army in a variety of historical time periods, including ancient, colonial era, WWI, WWII, Civil War, Napoleonic and medieval ages, as well as in fantasy or futuristic battles. As at previous conventions, a full slate of tournaments will be offered, ranging from the traditional ancient, medieval and renaissance games to WWII.

The 2011 convention theme is "Brother Against Brother. The war that changed America - the American Civil War, 1861-65." The volunteer gamemasters who are responsible for the perennial popularity of HMGS conventions, typically will offer a large number of games on the convention theme.

HISTORICON is open to the public and admission tickets can be purchased online or at the door. Non-playing family members of attendees are admitted free as are children ages 14 and under.

For additional information on HISTORICON 2011, or to pre-register for the entire convention, please visit the convention web site at www.historicon.org.

HISTORICON is one of three historical miniature gaming conventions presented each year by the Eastern Chapter of the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society, a non-profit charitable and educational foundation with more than 2,000 members worldwide. Other HMGS East conventions include COLD WARS in March and FALL IN! in November.
