Graham's Foundation to Hold First Micro-Preemie Parents' Group Conference Call
Online, June 2, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Graham's Foundation (http://www.GrahamsFoundation.org) is hosting its first parents' group conference call for parents of micro-preemie babies on June 8th at 5 p.m. PST/8 p.m. EST. Dads and moms who want to participate in the Graham's Foundation parents' group conference call can visit http://www.facebook.com/micropreemies for the toll-free dial in and conference room number.
Most moms and dads have the option of connecting with other parents, first at hospital groups and then later at parents' groups and playgrounds. Opportunities like these are often not available to moms and dads of micro-preemies, whose developing immune systems can't cope with those types of interactions, and this can lead to feelings of isolation for the parents.
The parents of babies born early - babies who spent months after birth in the hospital, who may need extra help breathing or eating, and who still likely have a long journey ahead of them - have a special perspective on what joy and success mean.
"While it would be wonderful if there was a local parents group just for the dads and moms of micro-preemies in every city, we hope that this conference call will serve the same purpose," said Nick Hall, who founded Graham's Foundation with his wife Jennifer in 2009 after becoming micro-preemie parents themselves.
In this and subsequent calls, the parents of micro-preemies will have a chance to:
• Connect emotionally with others like themselves. Parents who participate in the call will meet moms and dads who understand the ups and downs of caring for a micro-preemie.
• Ask and answer questions. The call will give moms and dads the chance to bounce ideas off one another in a forum made up of both experienced and new parents.
• Establish lasting connections with other families that include micro-preemies. Our hope is that the call becomes a way for parents to find a strong source of support and community in each other even after the call has ended.
