Helio Laniado Encourages MMA Training to Advance Professional Athlete Skills

NFL star, Tim Tebow has recently been practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as way to improve his athletic abilities during the offseason. Helio Laniado, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu expert, comments on how MMA can contribute to all-around athletic skills.

A recent article from The New York Post reveals that Tim Tebow, famed New York Jets quarterback, has been taking a creative approach to his offseason training. Working with expert mixed martial arts professionals at the Gracie training facility in Torrance, California, Tebow has practiced the unique activity known as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. While many expect that these fighting skills will improve his game next football season, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu champion, Helio Laniado comments on other benefits MMA training has.

Helio Laniado has been an active participant of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since 1994, and currently studies with famed trainer, Fabio Gurgel. Like Tebow, the MMA activity has brought Laniado to Southern California; the World Alliance team, which Laniado is a member of, recently attended the World's Pro competition in Long Beach, California where it earned its most recent victory. Helio comments, "Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has only recently become popular in the past decades, but has remained a strong athletic practice for hundreds of years. For a professional athlete like Tim Tebow, who has already displayed a wide array of skills - Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can offer a new way to finesse one's physicals abilities."

Helio Laniado has remained a fan of the sport, because of its unique focus on discipline and fighting through self-defense and combat. "These skills are ones that can truly advance Tebow's ability to perform on the football field," comments Laniado. In the article, celebrated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu trainer Ryron Gracie notes how Tebow's athletic prowess affected the training process, "Your athleticism [and] intelligence makes teaching Jiu Jitsu even easier!"

While the article focuses on the benefits that MMA training can have on NFL performance, Helio Laniado notes that the activity can benefit any athlete. He states, "While I have been involved with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for nearly 20 years, I am not a professional athlete. I make my living as a financial and investment specialist, but the sport has allowed me to learn about discipline and apply that to my career. For any athlete, or any professional, martial arts can provide a whole new outlook on how to conduct one's daily activities."

Laniado concludes that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be approached by any level of athlete, amateur or professional. While the mental rewards are enough for him, he explains that the health and fitness advantages make the practice one well worth the commitment. However, making the most out of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu requires dedication and continuous practice.
