Hot Iron on the Anvil: Intro to Forging Techniques Workshop

Hot iron, the forge, and a well-equipped anvil make an exciting workshop at the Center for Metal Arts in downstate New York. Vivian Beer is an engaging instructor, back by popular demand for this lively and entertaining workshop.

The Center for Metal Arts in Orange County, New York announces two more blacksmith's sizzling hot workshops, with classes for beginners in forging. Vivian Beer's Fundamentals of Forging class is ideal for the beginner who has never held a hammer, or for someone who would like more instruction in the basics of blacksmithing. Learn the basics of working with hot metals, and how to execute the fundamental forms. Learn when and why you might choose a particular technique.

For these small hands-on classes, the Center for Metal Arts provides individual work stations with individual anvils and professional tooling, in a fully-equipped teaching studio.

Vivian Beer exhibits and teaches nationally out of New England, and holds the Spring 2011 residency at SUNY Purchase College. She has an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art and held the metals studio residency at Penland School of Crafts.

A day in the studio with this rising young metal artist is always challenging and inspiring. To see more of Vivian Beer's work, go to www.vivianbeer.com. "I had a blast-"is the critique of a day with Vivian Beer, learning the art and skill of blacksmithing.
