Humaniq Takes Big STEP Towards Global Goal Thanks to Startup Competition Accolade

London-based Fintech firm Humaniq caused a stir in the Middle East by making it into the top three of one of the world’s biggest startup contests. Humaniq’s success in the STEP Start contest followed startup mentorship sessions, a flagship pitch competition and partner activations, and was part of the two-day STEP Conference in Dubai.

Humaniq was invited to the contest finale at the STEP Conference in Dubai, an event attracting over 6,000 attendees from different sectors and over 250 startups were showcased. STEP has over five years grown to become the biggest tech festival experience in the Middle East and the best platform for identifying project partners.

During STEP Conference 2018, the Humaniq team had a great experience being part of such a huge tech community. We seized the opportunity to raise interest in the project, find new partners to integrate their services into the Humaniq ecosystem and to make the voice of the unbanked heard. We also were invited to apply for Smart Dubai Office Blockchain Challenge - if successful, we'd be proud to be involved in such an ambitious project.

The startup competition involved three highly competitive stages. Only twenty five participants were selected from all over the world, judged on the quality of applicants’ written submissions. The successful participants who made it into the second stage then had to give an elevator speech on their projects. Humaniq representatives had only two minutes to give compelling answers to questions about the project. Humaniq’s team convinced the judges of the project’s strong goals, competitive advantages, the value in strong social message, and of the project’s innovative technological solutions and unique approach to token emission.

The selection of the Humaniq project by a three-member jury — Tarek Ghobar from UNION, Heather Henyon from WAIN and Noor Shawwa from Endeavor UAE — demonstrates the importance of the team’s work and the significance of Humaniq’s mission to bring financial inclusion to Africa’s unbanked population.

The fact that Humaniq’s ICO raised more than $5.1M, the reaction to the application’s launch, with 100,000 downloads from Google Play in five countries in just a quarter, and the rapid growth of the Humaniq community gave the jury a comprehensive picture of the project’s importance and achievement.
