ISACA Issues Guidance on Securing Sensitive Personal Information: Using COBIT 5 For India's IT Act
Online, July 23, 2012 (Newswire.com) - ISACA, a global association of 100,000 IT professionals, will provide guidance on the best approach to secure sensitive personal data or information using the COBIT 5 framework on Wednesday, 18 July 2012, at 08:00 PM (IST). Attendees of ISACA's free webinar on Using COBIT 5 for India's IT Act will learn from industry specialists and have the opportunity to get an advance look at an upcoming guide from ISACA.
Information is the currency of the 21st century. From very small organisations to very large enterprises, everyone uses "Sensitive Personal Data or Information" (SPDI) in every aspect of a business.
"Securing SPDI cannot be done in isolation. The entire organization has to be covered," said Avinash Kadam, advisor to ISACA's India Task Force. "Thus, the approach to secure SPDI should be holistic as well as customizable to suit the size and nature of the business of the organization."
In India, securing sensitive personal data or information is now mandated by India's Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008. Guidance such as COBIT 5 can assist with compliance.
"ISACA's COBIT 5 provides a comprehensive framework that assists enterprises in achieving their objectives for the governance and management of enterprise IT," said Kadam. "Simply stated, it helps enterprises create optimal value from IT by maintaining a balance between realising benefits and optimising risk levels and resource use."
He further added, "COBIT 5 enables IT to be governed and managed in a holistic manner for the entire enterprise, taking in the full end-to-end business and IT functional areas of responsibility, considering the IT-related interests of internal and external stakeholders. COBIT 5 is generic and useful for enterprises of all sizes, whether commercial, not-for-profit or in the public sector."
