Jackie DeWayne Reynolds Graduates With Honors
Online, October 11, 2010 (Newswire.com) - On August 14, 2010, Jackie DeWayne Reynolds became a college graduate. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in just three years, majoring in Economics with a minor in Mathematics.
"I'm excited about the future," Reynolds said. "It just goes to show that you that you are never too old to grow and learn."
At age 42, Reynolds was one of the oldest graduates of the school--and with a grade point average of 3.69, he's one of its better students, too. For all but one semester, Reynolds received the prestigious Presidential Honors Scholarship, a $7,000 per year academic scholarship. He graduated as a Presidential Honors Scholar by completing more than thirty hours of honors courses and writing a thesis his senior year.
Reynolds' undergraduate honors thesis was on how free market principles can enable commercial space development. Thanks to his involvement in the Presidential Honors Society, Reynolds presented his thesis at the 29th International Space Development Conference in Chicago in May 2010. The thesis can be read at www.renewingthedream.com.
In addition to his participation in the Presidential Honors Scholarship program, Reynolds' academic achievements were recognized by a number of other organizations as well. Over the course of his three-year academic career at Tarleton, Reynolds became a member of the Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society in Business Administration, Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Chi National Honor Societies, and is a Who's Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges.
He is also the founding president of a chapter of Alpha Sigma National Honor Society honoring the scholarship and leadership of the school's non-traditional students and was President of the Tarleton Economic Society his senior year. He presented a paper on the origins of the 2008 global recession at the 2010 Economic Scholars Program for Undergraduate Research Conference sponsored by the Federal Reserve Board of Dallas.
Reynolds worked his way through school as a Supplemental Instruction Leader and Mentor helping other college students learn Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus and Economics. Days after graduation, he moved to Dallas, Texas with his wife days after graduation where he hopes to start a family and eventually get a Master's degree in Economics or Mathematics.
