Justice In Jersey Grows So Fast It Stands Up To Be Counted!
Online, June 12, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Justice In Jersey, a new, recently formed organization is growing so much that they are looking for volunteers. Less than 3 months ago there were less than 5 people in the organization attempting to help reform sex offender laws. Today, they have grown over 100% and are still growing. An effect of this growth is need for volunteers to help with the demands and to work on some of the committees. You do not have to volunteer full time, a few hours a week or month is great. We are failing behind in some of our obligations and would greatly appreciate your time and or donations.
Justice in Jersey recently testified at the Assembly Judiciary Committee hearing on the Jessica Lunsford Act, with a disappointing result. The chair of this committee requested a vote before all testimony had been given. This testimony is extremely important as to assist in education of our policymakers. We were amazed that such experts as Ken Singer, state expert on sex offenders and author of "Evicting the Perpetrator" or Michael Buncher who is a deputy public defender in the state Office of the Public Defender in charge of the Special Hearings Unit. Certainly, such experts should never have been forgotten about. When her mistake, or oversight, was pointed out to her, she allowed the rest of the people to speak including Mr. Buncher and Mr. Singer. However, she requested that they summarize their testimony and then never requested another vote. Since there were some extremely legitimate questions with outstanding answers and promised actions, I was extremely confused to learn that she had passed the bill on to the Assembly Appropriations Committee without what Justice In Jersey would consider a true vote.
Justice In Jersey will also be speaking at a conference in Washington DC and will also be meeting with the Honorable Chris Smith's Office in the not so distant future. We need help. We are only as strong as your voice. We really are dependent on your time and your donations to support us and our efforts. Both are just as important.
Come grow with us and make a change in NJ. JusticeINJersey.org. We look forward to hearing from you! [email protected]
