Law firm Appoints Dominic Tomkins To Be Compromise Agreements Champion

Bowling & Co Solicitors, Legal 500 recommended law firm, have appointed Dominic Tomkins, a solicitor with a solid employment law background, to champion a new product to help employers and employees through the minefield of employment law.

It is very likely that unemployment will rise over the next twelve months with the possibility of a double dip recession and inevitable public sector cuts. Coupled with job losses, Bowling & Co Solicitors, a Legal 500 recommended law firm based in London and working across the UK, expect the employment market to respond to the economic pressure with pay freezes, pension scheme revisions and other cost cutting measures.

Bowling & Co have developed a new product, myCompromiseAgreement.com, and have appointed an Associate Solicitor, Dominic Tomkins, to help employers and employees ensure that the difficult process of terminating employment is as straightforward as possible.

Dominic Tomkins said "A Compromise Agreement sets out the parties' rights and duties on signing (which generally happens at the same time or after the employment ends). It gives an employer protection against the employee bringing a claim, whilst giving an employee a financial incentive to sign. A Compromise Agreement will generally also deal with an agreed reference, contractual benefits, holiday pay, confidentiality and tax liabilities."

"With myCompromiseAgreement.com we help" Dominic continued "to make what is a difficult time for both employer and employee as stress-free as possible, by being professional and 100% committed to delivering excellent customer service."

"When a business wants to let staff go, it may decide to ask them to sign Compromise Agreements - where the employees are asked to waive all their employment-related claims against the business except certain classes of personal injury claims and pension rights in return for a severance payment. The law requires that employees must be advised by an independent adviser, who will usually be a solicitor, for there to be a valid Compromise Agreement. Sometimes employers will refer employees to me, or employees approach me directly. Either way, the employer will generally pay my fees, if the Compromise Agreement is agreed, so my service is normally free to employees, and most importantly, I am completely independent of the employer" said Dominic.

Dominic Tomkins trained at Simmons & Simmons and previously worked as a solicitor in the employment team at Russell-Cooke. He said: "I am delighted to be joining Bowling & Co's employment team and there is a good fit with my previous experience." Dominic advises a range of clients from small businesses to industry as well as employers in the public and third sectors.

Employers and employees can contact Dominic Tomkins directly on telephone number 020 8221 8056 or 07852 993912 at [email protected] and there is more useful information at the myCompromiseAgreement.com website.
