Local Show Invites Artists Over Forty Worldwide
Online, August 23, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Challenging the myth that cutting edge art is created only by young artists, a local art group - The Haggus Society -- is mounting its first show created by older artists, some from beyond U.S. borders. The three-day show, opening in early October, will be held at Cathi Milligan's Glass Studio on York Boulevard near Avenue 50 in Highland Park.
Haggus Society cofounder, Terri Lloyd states, "This isn't necessarily the case. As I see it, the older artist actually has the courage, or lack of filters, to process and explore dangerous ideas. Perhaps this is why there isn't the same support for the older artist, dangerous ideas. Which is exactly why we should be recognized and supported."
Curatated and juried by Barbara Horosko Nichols,a Los Angeles artist whose work has been shown
in galleries on the west coast, New York, Montana and Alaska. Her paintings are in public and private collections. She earned her MFA at Claremont Graduate University. Barbara has extensive experience as an artist in the film and television industry of Hollywood.
Highlights of this presentation include a performance by fabric wrap artist Laura Brody, an appearance by Pink Buddha, and local popular food trucks.
The show runs from Friday October 7 through October 9 with a silent auction and reception on Saturday October 8.
