Loomis Soroptimist Funds International Water Filtration Projects

Online, July 23, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Soroptimist International (SI) of Loomis Basin, California contributed $1500 to the Seeds Of Hope International Project (SOHIP) and $750 to the For One Another Foundation to support international clean water projects.

Loomis Soroptimist club member Brenda Newsom, who with her husband Jon established the nonprofit foundation Clean Water Saves Lives (CWSL), has partnered with the Seeds Of Hope International Project. CWSL donated water well drilling equipment and is arranging to deliver it to Zambia, Africa through the SOHIP partnership. CWSL is dedicated to providing clean drinking water in areas of need by assisting with shallow water well projects, sanitation training, driller training and donation of some drilling supplies.

Newsom suggested that SI Loomis Basin consider contributing to the Seeds Of Hope International Project. The vision of this organization is to: Reverse the downward spiral of poverty through Empowering Communities with hope and tools to change their futures. The $1500 donation was designated to supply bio-sand filters to families in Zambia, Africa. The filters remove up to 97% of pathogens in the water. The Soroptimist funding will supply 18 families with filters that are expected to serve each family for a generation.

In addition, $750 was donated to For One Another Foundation to support providing basic water filtration systems internationally for orphanages, clinics, schools and small communities. Carrie Beth Bowen, who was raised in Penryn, made a presentation to the club and demonstrated the filtration systems that For One Another Foundation distributes.
