Loonatic Perspectives chronicles the journey of two passions of Stoney McCart: engaging and supporting young people across Canada and observing a pair of loons who have made a home on an old swimming raft in front of her cabin in a place called Go Home Bay.

Toronto; ON - June 3, 2010 - Stoney McCart, Executive Director and Todd Ward, Graphic Artist of the Students Commission of Canada, have authored and illustrated Loonatic Perspectives and will be releasing it June 3rd at 6:30-9:30 pm at Fire on the East, 6 Gloucester St., Toronto, Ontario. This book celebrates two magical journeys - a pair of loons, nesting and nurturing their young over three summers and the growth and nurturing of thousands of young people across Canada.

Public perceptions about young people, specifically vulnerable youth, are often based on a lack of understanding about the challenges they face and the strengths that reside within them. Loonatic Perspectives shines a light on the 'aha' moments when we begin to respect and understand who these young people are. The journey of youth in our country is illuminated through of the story of a pair of loons raising their young.

Says Irwin Elman, Provincial Advocate for Children and Youth, Ontario in the books forward, "This is the message that the (Students) Commission sends day in and day out to the future: 'We have faith in our children and youth.' It is a message of hope. It is a message to celebrate." Loonatic Perspectives is this celebration.

The launch of Loonatic Perspectives begins a year-long awareness and fund raising campaign about the importance of valuing and respecting Canadian youth, which will culminate next June at the upcoming 20th anniversary of the founding of The Students Commission. Just 10 years ago, The Students Commission became the leader of The Centre of Excellence for Youth Engagement.

Media is welcome at the launch.

The book is being made available to donors of $50 or more to The Students Commission through Canada Helps at http://www.canadahelps.org/CharityProfilePage.aspx?CharityID=d85257.
