Los Angeles Scientology Volunteer Ministers Bring Help to Local Neighborhoods

The motto of the Scientology Volunteer Minister is "Something Can be done about it," and Echo Park residents had the opportunity to find out why.

Church of Scientology Los Angeles set up their bright yellow tent in Echo Park to bring the unconditional help of the Volunteer Ministers program to the neighborhood.

A team of Scientology Volunteer Ministers from the Church of Scientology of Los Angeles set up their bright yellow tent in Echo Park last weekend—part of their mission to bring their unconditional help to communities around L.A.

Volunteer Ministers are probably best known for their work in times of disaster—such as the Japan and South Asian tsunamis and the Haiti and Nepal earthquakes—or for their Goodwill Tours that travel through villages in Africa, Australia’s Outback, the Amazon and other remote regions.

Mr. Hubbard described the Volunteer Minister as someone who "does not shut his eyes to the pain, evil and injustice of existence," but who provides help "on a volunteer basis by restoring purpose, truth and spiritual values to the lives of others."

But Volunteer Ministers are trained and ready to help with all of life’s disasters great and small—from illiteracy to relationship problems and from drug addiction to job stress. Their “tool kit” includes 19 bodies of technology—each the subject of a course that anyone may take to do better in life. Volunteer Ministers courses are offered free of charge at their bright yellow tents or online at the Volunteer Ministers website.

The program, created in the mid-1970s by L. Ron Hubbard and sponsored by the Church of Scientology International as a religious social service, constitutes one of the world’s largest and most visible international independent relief forces.

Mr. Hubbard described the Volunteer Minister as someone who “does not shut his eyes to the pain, evil and injustice of existence,” but who provides help “on a volunteer basis by restoring purpose, truth and spiritual values to the lives of others.”

A global network of Volunteer Ministers mobilizes in times of manmade and natural disasters, answering the call wherever needed. Collaborating with some 1,000 organizations and agencies, they have utilized their skill and experience in providing physical support and spiritual aid at hundreds of disaster sites.
