'Love Your Guts' Benefit Will Raise Funds for Crohn's & Colitis Foundation

'Love Your Guts' is a benefit concert to be held Oct. 17 at Molly Malone's pub in St. Matthews, featuring two Louisville bands, plus raffles, silent auction, food, drink and more. Proceeds go to the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Oct. 4 - Nick Winters is just 16, but he's seen enough in his young life to appreciate each day. Especially days when his chronic illness is in remission.

Winters suffers from Crohn's Disease and is the 2010 Louisville's Honored Hero for the Kentucky Chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation. The bright, bubbly young man lives life like many others who suffer from the conditions collectively known as inflammatory bowel disease - he takes it one day at a time. It takes guts.

The CCFA Kentucky chapter is working with Molly Malone's in St. Matthews, 3900 Shelbyville Road, to present "Love Your Guts," an inaugural, family-friendly event to raise funds for the CCFA's ongoing efforts to research possible cures for Crohn's and colitis. The event is set for Sunday, Oct. 17, 6-9 p.m.

"The goal with Love Your Guts, obviously, is to help people like Nick," said Kentucky CCFA Coordinator Jenny Silberisen. "But we also want to have some fun in the process."

Love Your Guts will feature two local musical artists - King Jacob and the Uncommon Houseflies - playing a variety of music, from blues to rock. There is a suggested $5 donation at the door, which will enter attendees in a grand-prize raffle. There will also be other raffles and giveaways, as well a silent auction.

"We are always happy to get behind such a worthy cause," said Brendan McCartan, general manager of Molly Malone's in St. Matthews. "We will donate 15 percent of sales during the event to the CCFA; we're looking forward to what we know will be an enjoyable event."

Other sponsors of this event include Maverick Marketing & Media, Republic Bank, Quantum Graphix, Main Line Broadcasting, Louisville Ballet, Massage Envy Spa, Louisville VIP Card, Images Salon, Print-Tex U.S.A., and many more.

ABOUT CROHN'S AND COLITIS
Crohn's Disease and ulcerative colitis are chronic digestive disorders of the intestines. These illnesses are collectively known as inflammatory bowel diseases, or IBD, because many of their symptoms and complications are similar. It is estimated that some 1.4 million Americans suffer from IBD. Anyone can get IBD, but adolescents and young adults between the ages of 15 and 35 are most susceptible. The cause of IBD is unknown, and there is no cure.
