Blues Guitar Unleashed has started a new Blues Guitarist series with an interview recently done with legendary blues/rock icon, Robin Trower at http://bluesguitarunleashed.com/an-interview-with-robin-trower/. The series was started largely due to the passing of several legendary blues musicians in recent months, with the latest being Lacy Gibson from Chicago (http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/music/ct-live-0414-lacy-gibson-obit-20110413,0,4167729.story)

"What I've seen is that, because I do this all the time, I'm a lot more familiar with many of the guitar players in the world that others have never heard of. Just the other day I was surprised to find out that my friend had not heard of Joe Bonamassa. I really thought he was a household name by blues standards," says Griff Hamlin, owner of Blues Guitar Unleashed.

"There is also a long running thread called 'What Are You Listening To' where I've tried to give our readers a chance to share some of their favorite artists. I think it's really important to expose as many people as possible to these musicians and guitarists that they might not have heard otherwise. I've been so personally inspired by so many artists that are nowhere near the mainstream. It would be a shame to have their impact be forgotten."

Robin Trower is still going strong after 40 years on the road after starting with the rock group Procol Harum. He is a long time friend and collaborator of Jack Bruce's and is well known for his stripped down blues/rock sound. His most recent release was 2010's The Playful Heart.

Robin is also well known for playing Fender Strats into Marshalls with some wah, univibe, and overdrive effects. He has said in other interviews that he is using effects by Fulltone currently.

As for how he developed his own sound, Robin has this to say, "I was lucky enough never to have any need to learn other people's songs or any other guitar player's licks. I just never wanted to do that, so I never sort of ended up with other people's stuff as it were."

The interview is reprinted from Guitar International (http://guitarinternational.com/2011/04/12/robin-trower-interview-the-playful-heart/) and credited.
