New Book Promises A Happier Life For All

An ambitious new book makes the uncompromising pledge to bring greater happiness and fulfilment to the life of its reader.

Human Nature by G D Kokani provides an earnest, thoughtful and thought-provoking examination of the human condition, through a series of observations and conclusions on key issues at the heart of modern society. Presented in a series of digestible short chapters with titles such as "Religion", "Inheritance" and "Justice", it shares the views acquired in the course of the long and remarkable life of its author, G D Kokani, a retired government official.

Kokani is an Indian national who rose from humble and obscure beginnings to a successful career in the Indian government. Born in the final days of the British Raj to a poor farming family, his first language was the local dialect of his native village, which had no written script. Determined to better his lot, he worked his way up through the local education system, graduating with distinction from an agricultural college before passing a stiff entrance examination to earn a place in the local government. There followed a long and distinguished career as a senior administrator in the Maharashtra Department of Education. Now in retirement, he has distilled the wisdom gained from a challenging life beset with adversity as an act of philanthropy to a troubled world.

"Human beings possess the highest intelligence, knowledge and technology, but still human life is largely shadowed by unhappiness, sufferings, unrest, chaos, confusion, mutual mistrust and dishonesty," says Kokani. "I honestly hope my book will enable the reader to adopt a more rational, practical and scientific approach to life and thereby make his life happier, more bearable, more meaningful and more peaceful."

Kokani sought an English publisher for his new book to gain greater awareness of his views beyond his native India. Human Nature will be published in December by SilverWood Books. It may be ordered from its on-line shop (www.silverwoodbooks.co.uk/bookshop) at the recommended retail price of £10 plus postage and packing.

"Human Nature is an intriguing book that is ideal for the bedside table or to dip into by the fireside on dark winter nights," says Helen Hart, Managing Director of Bristol-based publisher SilverWood Books. "Whether or not the reader agrees with Kokani's reasoning and views, he or she cannot fail to be stimulated or fascinated by the author's gentle and earnest entreaties."
